While Japan will always have a special place in my heart, the second most beloved place I have visited has been Iceland. Iceland is a small island country, about 350,000 of population. The land is filled with absolutely stunning scenery, scenery you can't possibly find anywhere else on earth. From volcano rock, to glaciers, high mountains, to vast plains, there's a little something for everyone here.
One of my favorite spots we took was at the Falljökull Glacier for our Glacier Hike!

Now you may be thinking; what's so special about walking on a glacier?
I thought that at first, but as I put my spiked shoes on and stepped onto the ice, looking out into the vastness of a blue sky glistening on top of white snow with constract of black volcanic rock.... its incredibly breathtaking . I mean, just look at the view yourself. I couldn't stop taking pictures. It was a gorgeous day, wasn't too cold that we were freezing, and we stomped across the glacier in a one-man-line listening to old viking tales from our tour guide.

Being April, there wasn't much snow on the ground in this area. As you can see in the photo above. Some of the glacier had even melted, hence the little lake you see in the photos. The hike lasted about 2 hours and we even listened to some of the ice falling in the distance. There were some holes in the glaciers that are dangerous to go near, but rather fun to look at.
Perhaps it's a long trek to get to Iceland, but I highly recommend it if you're a nature lover. The landscapes are to die for and the people are wonderful! I felt truly at peace in some of these areas of the country. It's quiet and you can take in all that Iceland has to offer of natural beauty.
Also, the Aurora Borealis is an amazing sight!
Learning the Icelandic language was also a joy, considering many of the places are hard to pronounce.
Ég elska Ísland!
