I never thought I'd visit Kansas. I've heard stories of tornadoes and Dorthy being swept up into the clouds. I've also heard there is absolutely nothing in Kansas.
Yet, I found myself plopped into the small city of Wichita and exploring it's wide streets and flowing rivers. Upon a nice quiet walk on the river side, I spot a large sculpture in the distance.
"I gotta go see that." I say out loud and find my feet floating effortlessly in the direction of the mysterious grand statue.

This is the Keeper of the Plains. Built in 1974 and designed by a Native American artist Blackbear Bosin, the statue stands on a rock soaring into the sky surrounded by water. A night, a ring of fire dances around the statue. Below the statue are facts about the Native American tribes that flourished the area many decades ago.
It was interesting to learn about the Native Americans of the land. Sure, where I'm from we have a few historical sites, but nothing quite as outstanding as this one. This one is bold and distinctive, unable to be ignored by any surrounding atmosphere.

As I strolled around the city, I found more tiny Keeper of the Plains scattered on the streets. All dressed up and dyed in different colors and designs. It was fun to keep stopping new ones.
I'm glad my trip to Kansas found a unique opportunity to both learn a little about America and take some fantastic photos.
